First Aid for Your Child: Eye Injury

Eye injury

(due to contact with any chemicals)

What to Do

•DON’T rub injured eye

•Wash with water as quickly as possible, by  putting your child’s eye under cold running water for at least 10 minutes. It may be easier to pour water from a jug so it falls away from the face and the other eye

•If your child’s eye is shut tightly, gently  pull the lid open to wash under it

•Dress the eye with an eye pad or a clean  pad made of non-fluffy material and bandage it carefully in place

•Seek medical care
