What’s happening to humanity?

What’s happening to humanity? What’s happening to the world?

Are we getting older? Or is it getting uglier?

It used to be that we laughed and played and ate ice cream. Now we see images of children being murdered every day.

What ever happened to the world? Was it always this ugly, or as kids were we just unaware? What about today’s kids? Don’t they at least have the right to be unaware too (if we will for a moment accept that it is what it is and there is nothing we can do)?

It seems we have to accept that we are living in a world where everything we understood is changing. All the words have new meanings. HUMANITY has lost its meaning. Even HOPE has lost most of its features. MEDIA is unrecognizable, ENTERTAINMENT is at its worst. While another word stands out very strong and loud and tall: GREED.

How have we allowed human greed to take over the world? How have we allowed it to infiltrate almost everything we meet in our daily lives? It’s in our supermarkets and pharmacies. It’s in our products and services. It’s on our streets. Sometimes they call it marketing, other times they call it politics. But it is what it is. Nations fighting over land since the day they were born, forgetting that the land was made for human beings to live in and enjoy, not to be killed for and destroyed. Was it really so impossible to take good care of the earth and share it with one another? It’s sad that just thinking this way is now considered naive and idealistic. It’s simply not NORMAL anymore.

Why are we so focused on destroying rather than on building? Why are we so focused on taking rather than on giving? And how can we turn things around? Or are we going to sit around and watch? I don’t have all the answers but I do know that it’s either we give in and give up and just barely exist. Or we try to really live, for ourselves and for one another. We fight the current. We spread the opposite of what we see and despise. We insist on being louder and on standing stronger and taller. We do our part, whatever it is or can be.

And most of all, we try to raise little human beings who are driven by the right set of deeply rooted and non-negotiable values, and whose humanity is intact. Humanity in it’s true meaning, it’s all encompassing fairness. Humanity as it no longer seems to exist and perhaps seldom did. Humanity as we can choose to redefine it.

After all, humanity is where it is today because a bunch of people did their part, their way. Well, let’s be the other bunch and find out what we can collectively do.
